Why Do Children Sometimes See Privacy Rules As Control?

Children value autonomy. When guidelines appear sudden or unexplained, they may feel monitored rather than guided.

Islamic privacy principles are not about secrecy. They are about boundaries.

Reframe Privacy As Mutual Respect

Say:

  • “We knock because we respect space.”
  • “We lower our gaze to protect our hearts.”
  • “We do not spy because trust matters.”

Model What You Teach

Respect their privacy appropriately as well.

Avoid checking devices secretly without discussion. Demonstrate that boundaries apply both ways.

When children see consistency, control becomes credibility.

Does your home practise privacy with fairness?
