The Subtle Signs Your Child Is Struggling With Peer Comparison

Jealousy does not always appear as hostility.

It can look like:

  • Self-criticism
  • Over-competitiveness
  • Withdrawal
  • Mocking others’ success

These behaviours often mask insecurity.

Shift From Moralising To Mentoring

Avoid saying:

  • “That’s wrong.”
  • “You shouldn’t feel that.”

Instead try:

  • “What do you think makes that feel unfair?”
  • “What does their success mean about you?”

Teach that competition can motivate growth, but comparison should not define worth.

Faith teaches contentment and gratitude, yet these virtues grow through reflection, not reprimand.

Does your child feel safe admitting insecurity?
