Can Dizziness Or Fainting Be A Sign of An Arrhythmia?

Feeling dizzy or lightheaded is something most people experience at some point. However, when these sensations occur suddenly or alongside palpitations, they may point to something more serious.

An arrhythmia affects how efficiently the heart pumps blood. When this process is disrupted, the brain may not receive enough oxygen, leading to symptoms such as instability, near-fainting, or complete loss of consciousness.

Common warning signs include:

• Sudden lightheadedness without an obvious cause.
• A racing, slow, or irregular heartbeat before symptoms.
• Brief blackouts or near-blackouts.

It is important to recognise the difference between general dizziness and heart-related symptoms. Cardiac-related dizziness often feels like “greying out” rather than spinning.

If episodes are recurring or severe, seeking medical advice is essential.
