Can Blood Tests Reveal The Cause of Heart Palpitations?

 

When investigating heart rhythm problems, many people expect scans or heart monitors to provide all the answers. However, blood tests play an equally important role. 

While they cannot directly detect an arrhythmia, blood tests help identify the underlying causes that may be triggering it. 

The heart relies on a precise chemical balance to function properly. Minerals such as potassium and magnesium are essential for stable electrical signals. Even small imbalances can lead to palpitations or irregular rhythms. 

Hormonal factors also play a role. An overactive thyroid, for example, can increase heart rate and lead to rhythm disturbances. 

Other conditions, such as anaemia or infection, can place additional strain on the heart, making symptoms more noticeable. 

By identifying these factors, blood tests allow clinicians to address the root cause rather than just the symptoms.
