Is It Sunnah to Eat Lightly at Iftar?

The Sunnah clearly supports eating lightly at the start of Iftar.

The Prophet  would break his fast with dates or water, then pray Maghrib, and only afterwards eat more fully. This sequence shows that Iftar was not meant to begin with heaviness.

Eating lightly helps maintain comfort, focus, and gratitude at the moment the fast ends.

This Sunnah approach protects the balance between nourishment and worship.

Wise Compass often reflects on how prophetic habits help slow down moments of relief.

That same thoughtful approach continues through Juniors’ Adventures and Young Explorers, where everyday choices are explored with care.

Lightness at Iftar is a form of restraint continuing into ease.

How does this compare with how Iftar usually looks for you?
