Can Sick People Skip Fasting in Ramadan?
Many people search this question while already feeling unwell.
Islam clearly allows sick people to skip fasting if fasting causes harm, worsens symptoms, or delays healing. This includes both physical illness and medically recognised conditions.
If the illness is short-term, the fasts are made up later. If the illness is permanent or long-term, Fidya replaces fasting instead.
These rulings are part of the design of fasting, not exceptions to it.
Wise Compass often reflects on how understanding these allowances helps people practise Ramadan with honesty rather than fear.
This same balance between care and responsibility is explored in story-led book collections such as Juniors’ Adventures and Young Explorers, where faith concepts are introduced thoughtfully.
Knowing when to stop fasting is part of knowing how to fast.
