Are Elderly People and Children Exempt From Fasting During Ramadan?

Yes, they are, but for different reasons.

Children are not required to fast until maturity. While they may participate gradually, fasting is not obligatory for them.

Elderly people who cannot fast due to age, illness, or weakness are exempt. If fasting is no longer manageable, it is replaced with Fidya.

These exemptions are not exceptions. They are part of how fasting is designed to work.

Wise Compass often reflects on how recognising limits allows faith to remain sincere and sustainable.

This understanding is also explored through story-led reading collections like Juniors’ Adventures and Young Explorers, which introduce responsibility through narrative rather than instruction.

Fasting honours capacity, not comparison.

What part of this exemption do you think needs clearer conversation?
