ADHD IEP Non-Compliance Explained for Parents

When a school does not implement an ADHD IEP as agreed, this is considered non-compliance. IEPs exist to protect a child’s access to education, and schools are legally required to follow them.

Ignoring accommodations such as movement breaks, learning support, or behavioural strategies can significantly harm a child’s academic progress and emotional wellbeing.

What Parents Should Do First

Parents are not powerless when an IEP is ignored.

  • Record all missed accommodations in writing.
  • Contact the IEP coordinator or SEN lead.
  • Request a formal IEP review meeting.
  • Escalate concerns through official complaints if needed.

Why Prompt Action Is Important

Delays allow patterns of non-compliance to continue. Early action protects learning access and prevents long-term setbacks.
