Is Kaffarah Required If You Break the Fast by Mistake?

No, it is not.

Kaffarah is never required for accidental breaking of the fast. Forgetting and eating or drinking, vomiting unintentionally, or similar actions do not carry Kaffarah.

In many such cases, the fast remains valid. Even when a fast needs to be made up, Kaffarah still does not apply because there was no deliberate intention.

This ruling protects fasting from becoming a source of fear and self-blame.

Wise Compass often reflects on how clarity around intention helps people practise fasting with confidence rather than anxiety.

That same reassurance continues through Juniors’ Adventures and Young Explorers, where responsibility is explained with care.

Mistakes are not treated the same as choices.

Which fasting mistake do you think people worry about unnecessarily?
