Understanding AAC Autism Support
AAC autism support refers to tools that help autistic individuals communicate when speech is difficult or inconsistent. These tools can include picture boards, communication books, or digital devices that speak messages aloud.
AAC supports both augmentative communication, which adds to speech, and alternative communication, which replaces speech when necessary. It is not a last option but a valid and empowering way to communicate.
When AAC may help
Limited speech, frequent misunderstandings, or a strong preference for visual tools can all indicate that AAC would be beneficial. AAC reduces frustration and supports independence.
