Socioeconomic Disparities and Autism: What Research Shows

Research shows that children from disadvantaged or minority backgrounds face higher birth risks, including premature birth and limited prenatal care. These factors increase autism likelihood. Yet these same children often face delayed diagnosis due to reduced access to healthcare and systemic bias.

Minority children with birth complications are also more likely to be misdiagnosed or overlooked during early screening.

Improved cultural sensitivity, early screening access and targeted public health efforts are essential for closing the gap.

Families can seek inclusive support through Autism Detect, with overlapping ADHD traits explored via ADHD Certify.
